Twenty years ago the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany, began making miniature replicas of the great milestones in furniture design. Vitra's Miniatures Collection summarizes the history of industrial furniture design – moving from the historic, to the art nouveau movement, to Bauhaus’ radical design, all the way up until the present day – the collection has grown to include more than 65 pieces.
Vitra's Miniature Chairs are licensed reproductions that have been produced using the same specifications and materials as the originals. Collecting these (while still not an inexpensive endeavor), affords one the pleasure of owning exact replicas of their favorite pieces at a lower price and much smaller scale.

Many designers collaborate with Vitra to develop the miniatures of their own designs and offer their assistance by supplying information on the objects. In return, Vitra honors the designer’s copyright by paying royalties.
The Vitra Design Museum numbers among the world’s leading museums of design. It is dedicated to the research and presentation of industrial design, past and present, and examines design’s relationship to architecture, art and everyday culture. If you are ever near Basel, take a day and visit this amazing museum.
Beware of fakes and "replicas". Support creativity and help protect the history of design and the future of innovation - always buy original and authentic designs.
