The Eames House Bird and Other Design Gifts
A small piece by a big name makes a good gift. It fits on a shelf, it outlasts the season, and it often starts a collection.
Birds
The Eames House Bird copies the black folk-art bird that Charles and Ray Eames kept at home for more than half a century, and Vitra makes it in lacquered solid alder. Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec designed L'Oiseau for Vitra in 2011, a lower and calmer bird in pale wood. Flensted's Cherry Birds mobile turns slowly in the warm air of a room.
The Kink vase
Earnest Studio designed the Kink vase for Muuto in 2018. It is porcelain glazed on the inside, with two openings that make it a sculpture even when it holds no flowers.
