Flos Almendra Organic Pendant Lamp
Almendra is a modular, and customizable, suspended lighting system providing diffused light emission, available in linear and organic leaf-like compositions. Designed by Patricia Urquiola, the Almendra lighting system was born from the idea of providing a functional, efficient, yet gentle and soft light with a highly comfortable emission, explains the designer, “like the one that caresses the leaves of a tree outside the window of one’s home.”
- Each lighting unit contains an integrated Edge Lighting technology and can rotate up to a 60º angle to change the direction of the light emitted
- The product has been designed according to the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) standards. It is assembled without glued components so that it can be completely separated for easy recycling
- The curved module can be set to obtain multiple configurations with 2 or 3 lights in 2 lengths options, which can be positioned downwards or upwards

Patricia Urquiola
Spain, 1961
Patricia Urquiola studied architecture at Madrid Polytechnic and Milan Polytechnic, graduating in 1989 with Archille Castiglioni as her metor. She was then given the position of being an assistant lecturer to Castiglioni and Eugenio Bettinelli in Mlan and Paris. Her designs are unconventional, emphatic, and experimental, blending humanist sensibilities and technical expertise – qualities that also inform her work as an architect. The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona is one of her many architectural projects.
She was responsible for the new product development office of DePadova and worked with Vico Magistretti as head of Lissoni Associati's design group. In 2001, she opened her own studio and started designing for some of the most important Italian and international companies around the world. She has since been awarded the Gold Medal of fine arts by the Spanish Government and been declared "Designer of the decade" in the German magazines "Home" and "Hauser".
Founded in Merano in 1962, Flos is internationally recognized as a high-end modern designer lighting and lighting systems manufacturer for private residential and commercial sectors. They strive to amplify and increase creative lighting solutions. Later collaborations include Achille Castiglioni in the 80s, which established FLO within the industry with the Brera Series.
Flos creations have won numerous awards, including the Compasso d'Oro Industrial Design Award five times. Many now feature in permanent collections of major art and design museums worldwide. Commissions include Venice's Palazzo Grassi and the City of Amsterdam archives. With a versatile catalog, long-standing reputation, and rich design history, Flos products are an excellent addition to any space.
